Thanks, but no thanks

It's flattering, it really is, but...

That's what I keep thinking these days when someone asks or otherwise makes blatant overtures to me about having me work on a creative project with them. Want me to illustrate? Cool. Want me to write? Nifty. Comic book? Well, it sounds good.

But...

Is this going to be a partnership with this thing called teamwork? Or will I end up doing ninety percent of the work and the other gets ninety percent of the credit and at best, I get fifty percent of the earnings? I don't do doormat. If it ends up that I'm doing most of the brainwork and most of the fingerwork, I start to wonder why I need the other person. When it gets to that point, I'm no longer working with someone, I'm working for someone with no assurance of pay.

So, bottom line: No. I will not be your slaving artmonkey/writingmonkey. Go away.

Bye Ringo

Well, this probably doesn't mean much unless you're familiar with comic book artists...

Mike Wieringo died yesterday.

I watch him on dA and read his blog on a weekly basis. I really liked his work.

My first thought was, "This has gotta be a hoax." I couldn't access his blog, so I went to Todd Dezago's.

I'm kinda bummed now.

Pyro

Trends and Facets

Well, it's interesting to note the kinds of trends on who likes what characters of mine. Recently, I realized the Py's fans are mostly girls between 14 and 16 years old. That's what the profiles said anyways. With the internet, you never know. Anyways, it makes sense, considering how old I was when I first came up with the character...

OMFG

I just dug up the notation on the first drawing I did of him. 1995. 1995.

I just did the math.

Novah and Gaenymi are the only characters I still have active that predate him. They used to be in the same sci-fi universe as him, too.

This all has occured to me before in the past year or so, but it just hasn't hit me until now.

I'm now siezed with the idea of doing the old-school renditions of Novah and Pyro. Timewise, they were created fairly closely to each other. Gaenymi predates the both of them by about a year and she did start out in the high fantasy genre.

Artspasm away!

Quizzes again

Your Score: Katharine Hepburn

You scored 21% grit, 9% wit, 61% flair, and 19% class!

You are the fabulously quirky and independent woman of character. You go your own way, follow your own drummer, take your own lead. You stand head and shoulders next to your partner, but you are perfectly willing and able to stand alone. Others might be more classically beautiful or conventionally woman-like, but you possess a more fundamental common sense and off-kilter charm, making interesting men fall at your feet. You can pick them up or leave them there as you see fit. You share the screen with the likes of Spencer Tracy and Cary Grant, thinking men who like strong women.

Find out what kind of classic leading man you'd make by taking the

The Spite Muse

A few months ago, the spite muse nearly erupted into a vengeful spite goddess. But things shifted and the muse settled down enough to wait and see how events would turn out. Last night, the spite muse did make good on the evolution. Creative impulses like whoa to the point that I couldn't sit down and address them. Almost to the point of shaking with the neural turbo overdrive mode. Now that I'm geared down, it's time to put that spite to work and ride it for all it's worth.

Now that I think about it, most of my creative drive comes from spite and malcontent. I don't like most of the fantasy and sci-fi on the shelves and on the screen? Fine. If I want it done right, I'll do it myself. No wonder my projects aren't full of happy sunshine rainbows.
